HDK student Linda Karlsson's contribution to the contest

Linda Karlsson, a student the HDK Programme Child Culture Design is among the top 10 short listed participants in the Design contest organized by INDIA Future of Change across 50 countries.

On May 20, a Grand Jury with creative designers and experts in the domain declared that 10 of 25 nominated hade been chosen to get  the chance to besome the winner of the Grand Prize of US$35,000. Linda Karlsson is one of these 10, who will get a 15-day-all-expenses-trip to India, to present her project to the jury.

Linda Karlsson’s contribution, Glucoo, is a help for diabetics. Today 220 million people in the world are suffering from diabetes. By measuring the levels of glucose in the blood one can correctly regulate their intake of insulin.

Glucoo provides diabetics with a simple, safe and cost effective way to monitor blood glucose levels. Traditional blood glucose monitoring systems require many fine motor skills and contain loose parts; providing an unnecessary cognitive load for older individuals with diabetes.

Glucoo, on the other hand, has no loose parts and works with one squeeze of the hand. The measurement is then collected and stored in a database. This database provides a unique profile that is able to automatically generated feedback to the user. The database is also available for doctors to monitor their patient’s prognosis at regular check ups.

We cross our fingers for Linda!
