Versions of young designers vision
31 Jan 2012
In a time of increasing individual focus a group of young Swedish designers present their vision: collectivity and sharing. The visual communication of the project is inspired by surrealism, football and choirs. Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2012 is the place where it all happens.
The next generation of young designers will give their interpretation of a designers' vision when twentyone students from HDK – School of Design and Crafts, University of Gothenburg, exhibit at the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2012.
The mutual theme ”Versions of Vision” is filled with inquiries into the
different aspects of collectivity and sharing. A pressing issue in a time of
increasing individual focus.
The exhibition will show furniture for common use, the private space at
home and for sharing through generations. Amongst other things you will
meet a clay sculpture with an interactive light installation, a storage
system for the modern wanderer and patterns of our collective
unconsciousness.
Open your mind for inspiration from the book ”Plan B4.0 – Mobilizing to
Save Civilization” by Lester R Brown and a combination of a floor lamp
and a table. Why not explore boundaries between the decorative and
functional aspects of a mirror, while you’re at it?
Photos and graphical pieces will also give their take on the theme,
exhibited in a publication. Would you like to dive into silence, you can
find yourself at home in a one person meeting booth.
- Our aim has been to create a space for communication and interaction, says one of the students, working in the ”space group”.
- The publication is what binds it all together. During the course leading up to the furniture Fair, we have tried out different methods of working collectively and we have investigated the designer’s role. The publication is the result, says one of the students, involved with the ”communication group”.
The students' exhibition “Versions of Vision” can be found in the HDK stand VHÖ:10, at the Greenhouse of Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, 7-11 February 2012. The Greenhouse is the part of the fair dedicated to students and independent designers, were you will be sure to find exciting new ideas and a thriving designers scene.
The students represent the international master’s programme Design – individual specialization. At HDK future designers, craftsmen, artists, teachers in visual arts and sloyd gather in the same building as doctoral students and researchers. HDK is more than 160 years old, placed in the city centre of Gothenburg , Sweden, and is a part of University of Gothenburg and Scandinavia’s biggest Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts.
