Kristina Sahlqvist, Architect SIR/MSA
Visiting Professor in Design with the specialisations Spatial design and Sustainable development
The strength of good design lies in ourselves and our ability to sense the world with feeling and reflection.
Born and brought up in Gothenburg and educated as an interior architect and furniture designer at Konstindustriskolan /HDK. I have been professionally active as an interior architect and designer since 1977 at the ArkitektStudion AB, first as a partner and after 2005 running my own private company. Assignments vary from concept sketches to creating projects with concept development, interior designing, product development, colour schemes and visualisation. The architectonic enterprise is run according to a high level of artistic ambition and with assignments from many different areas. My input is that of the managing and responsible interior architect and designer, where great emphasis is laid upon the spatial experience with human beings in focus in a process of sustainable development.
At HDK I have been active as a lecturer, and since 2005 as a visiting professor in spatial design and sustainable development on the Master’s Programme in design. Included in the assignment are the development of the subject areas, lecturing, and supervising and examining students. I have participated in developing the general design courses at the advanced level which were started in 2001 and also started a Master’s Studio ”Care” and a cooperative project with the Ågrenska Foundation with the specialisation ”Design for All”. I have formulated and held independent courses in ”Design for Sustainable Development” and ”Sound” in cooperation with the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts.
In research contexts I am now involved with a working group in a design project on enriched environments, design and brain research. It is an interdisciplinary research project in an artistic context between the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts/ HDK and the Sahlgrenska Academy/ Neuro-Rehab, within the profile area at the University of Gothenburg entitled ”Culture and Health”.
Working in project form interests me as a means of creating change and improving the human living environment.
Research: Artistic Development Enterprise. An ongoing project.
2008, 2009 och 2010. Research project: ”Can information from basic research on the effects of enriched environments on the brain lead to improved rehabilitation environments using design methodology? – An explorative study within design and neurology”. A Design with Care project. An interdisciplinary research project between HDK/ the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts and Neuro-Rehab/ Sahlgrenska Academy within the University of Gothenburg’s profile area ”Culture and Health”. The project refers to the theme ”sustainable development” and aims att merging design methodology and clinical research. As part of the project studies will be carried out on how the rehabilitation environments and products of the future can be designed and implemented. This is to be carried out with the help of a test environment – in an interdisciplinary development project and in an artistic context – between the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg. Funding from the Adlerbertska Research Foundation and the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts.
