Martin Farran-Lee

My name is Martin Farran-Lee and I have been a Visiting Professor in Visual Communication at HDK since the autumn of 2006. I received my education in graphic design at RMI-Berghs in Stockholm. I have been working as an Art Director and Graphic Designer since my graduation in 1984. My special field of interest is in editorial design – in the areas of art, design and fashion. I lived in London between 1990-2000 and worked as Art Director for Blueprint and Arena magazines. I also ran my own design studio, working with clients such as Hayward Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts and Phaidon. While in London I was a visiting tutor in graphic design at the Royal College of Art. Today I live in Copenhagen, Denmark, and run the design company Specific Design. I work with clients such as Fritz Hansen, Moderna Museet, Danish Design Centre, Politikens Forlag and Galleri Charlotte Lund.

Mission statement: I have always believed that great design is founded on a sound knowledge of your craft. With a solid foundation you can build as high as you want. This is the message I give to my students.
