Textile Art BA level

The Bachelor Programme in Textile Art is a three-year artistic education at first cycle level within the discipline Crafts.

If your aim is to lay the foundation for a professional artistic career involving textiles as material and method, then HDK offers you a great chance. Here you will have the time and space as well as the opportunity for in-depth studies and the development of your artistic processes.

The goal is for you to achieve a vigorous and distinctive artistic identity with an attitude of awareness towards the contexts in which you choose to be active. The Programme is structured around course work, lectures, seminars, artistic discussions and individual in-depth studies. Tutor guidance is an essential part of the Programme. Visiting artists will be invited to lead course work and contribute to tutor guidance.

We encourage an exploration of the fabric’s opportunities for expression and form, in practice and in relation to the outside world.

HDK has two textile workshops, the fibre workshop and the print workshop. In the fibre workshop there is equipment for creating textile structures by means of weaving, knitting, embroidery and tufting. In the print workshop you can print manually or digitally, dye and patinate etc.

Throughout your studies you will meet students from the BA in Ceramic Art and Jewellery Art and Design in joint courses on theory, writing and design.

Moreover, as a student at HDK you have access to well equipped shared studios, workshops as well as the Art Library.

This Programme at first cycle level creates a platform for your application later to the Master’s Programme which is at second cycle level.

Each year 6-8 students are admitted to the program. Selection is made through examination of submitted work samples and subsequent interview.
