Teacher Training Programme

Teacher Training Programme

Teaching is a complex and broadly put-together profession, which is why you as a teacher in the making need to gather knowledge from several different fields of competence before you are ready to go out and teach. Apart from needing to be an ”expert” at teaching your specialist subject, you must also be able to create enthusiasm and the desire to learn in your subject fields.

The Teacher Training Programme is divided up into three different sections in order to give you, a prospective teacher, the skills you are going to need:

  • Educational Sciences Core
The Educational Sciences Core will introduce the Programme and consist of 60 HECs. It is here that you will read general courses concerning the profession of teaching. The study block in Educational Sciences is divided up into 8 subcourses distributed throughout the period of your studies. Its focus is professionalism.
  • Subject courses
The most extensive part of your studies will be concentrated on subject courses which include subject knowledge as well as subject didactics. At HDK you will be studying subject courses in Visual Art and Sloyd and material culture.
  • VFU – Practical training
Practical training (VFU) is also included and located at a school. It comprises 30 HECs. Of this practical training, 15 HECs are divided between illustration and sloyd subjects respectively and the Educational Sciences Core is worth 15 HECs.

More information about subject courses in Visual Art and Sloyd and material culture can be found under the headings on the left.
