At the ground floor you will find the Wood Workshop. Being a student, you can work here during different workshops, or when your project or “mock up” needs a wooden shape.
You will meet our technician Arne Svensson, who is responsible for the workshop according to functioning of the equipment, materials and by occasion can guide you trough the process according to technique and choice of adequate material. Design students can also get guidance from technician Göran Danielsson.
The technicians are also responsible for the education of the students who wish to work in the workshop. In some of the programmes at HDK skills in working with wood is a part of the programme, in some not. In order to work here you need education or similar skills and it is the technicians who confirm the ones that get permission to work in the workshop.
In the wood storage you choose material for your project according to look, durability, cost and so on. The most common kinds of tree as Pine, Birch, Oak, Beech and Asch are always in stock. You’ll also find several kinds of board in different dimension. If you want something special, we can order. All material has to be paid by the students.
In the machinery hall you work with your material and create the pieces that will be part of the construction. All joined together with a method supervised by the technician.
Here you will find the most common machinery used in a wood workshop, such as Planers Saws, Drill machines, Sanders and several hand tools.
The Bench workshop is the place were you give your project it’s final touch. Here, we try to keep a silent working place, a room for contemplation and distinct thinking.
Here you can also work with a vacuum rubber bag in order to create bended surfaces or any kind of organic shape.
