Design Master Level

Holmenkollen Fyrar
A project exploring relationships between graphic design and architecture through the design of a concept for a visual identity, wayfinding system and applied graphic pattern for JDS Architects’ new ski jump design in Holmenkollen, Norway.
This exam project surrounds the exploration of links between architecture and graphic design and expands upon knowledge gathered previous to the commencement of the Masters programme during professional practice.
To explore these links the opportunity was given to develop a design concept for a wayfinding system for JDS Architects’ new ‘Holmenkollen Fyr’ ski jump near Oslo, Norway. Early research also led to the project being expanded to include a visual identity for the building and a related graphic pattern.
The design work created attempts to relate back to the architecture of the building by being designed to reflect: the concept of the architecture; the purpose of the building; a connection to place; the ski jump’s visual appearance; and, the materials the building is constructed from.
More information about the development of this concept and further visuals can be found in the report, which is downloadable here. For more information about the JDS Architects or the ski jump itself please visit www.jdsarchitects.com
