Building a Better Bunk, Mate

It is hard to tell exactly when an environment becomes extreme but we have for this project made the definition that an extreme environment is where humans can not survive without technical assistance. This could be on in space, the arctic at high altitude or under the surface of the oceans.

Throughout this project we have focused on the soft values that are important when designing for humans and tried ti incorporate them into the extreme environments. The result is a concept of the interior of a future submarine for the Australian Navy.

The work has been done in collaboration with Deep Blue Tech in Adelaide, Australia.

Det är svårt att säga exakt var gränsen går för att en miljö ska kunna kallas för extrem. Det som vi har utgått från i det här projektet är ställen dit människor söker sig av fri vilja men inte kan överleva utan tekniska assistans. Det kan till exempel handla om rymdfarkoster, polarstationer, höga höjder eller under vattenytan.

Vårt fokus har legat på att ta fram en metod att ta till vara på de mjuka värden som är viktiga för att människor ska trivas och må bra när man designar för dessa miljöer. Metoden har sedan används för att ta fram en ett förslag på hur en framtida ubåt kan inredas på ett bättre sätt.

Arbetet har gjorts tillsammans med Deep Blue Tech i Adelaide, Australien.
